Project one
The politics of South Africa
The challenge was to create an interactive information graphic that showed key elements of the South African political environment such as; party affiliation, geographic location, age, gender, urbanisation and, income level. I designed a website that could be used by the Electoral Commission of South Africa to inform the public of the South African voter demographic. I chose an interactive medium seeing as it would be the best way to display large amounts of complex data in a way that us easy to digest and understand.
Project two
the organisation of the future
The objective of this project was to combine diverse knowledge sets to plan an organisational strategy for DesignU - a private, design-focused university in South Africa, planning towards 2030 and beyond. I combined strategy, organisational design, industrial psychology and futures studies to predict educational trends. My strategy for DesignU, focused on the university having very strong ties to industry specialist and leaders - closing the skill gap through project-based learning. After developing a strategy, the information was displayed on a website.
Project three
the design problem
In order to establish a design problem, the Design Thinking strategy had to be implemented. I identified an area of interest and refined the problem statement as I started implementing each step of the Design Thinking process. I used various research strategies to refine the problem at each stage, such as a problem tree, affinity diagram, survey testing and so on. I designed an infographic depicting a WhatsApp group chat between the six stages of the Design Thinking process to determine the best-suited problem statement.
Project four
Overcoming analysis paralysis
The project requirements were to research analysis paralysis and comment on how strategic management could act as a tool to combat it. I used the Jam Jar Experiment and the concept of paradox of choice to explain the decision-making process and how it is affected by analysis paralysis as well as unpacked strategic management and how corporate entities could assist in helping customers avoid analysis paralysis. After completing the needed desktop research, I created graphical representations to illustrate my findings and conclusion.
Project fIVE
DOCUMENTARY INFOGRAHIC
I was tasked to create an infographic regarding a specific documentary - it had to capture the essence of the documentary visually and explain what it was about. I used my understanding and knowledge of typography, composition and other design-related elements to create an infographic that tells a story. I chose the Netflix documentary - Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. After documenting the information gathered from the film, I decided to convey the information through the use of creative typography.
Project six
a comprehensive brand strategy
The project requirements included developing a comprehensive visual strategy for a company which manufactures and sells drones to hobbyist drone users as well as professionals. I used my understanding of relevant strategic information to builds the core components of visual strategy with corresponding justifications. The brand strategy includes market segmentation, drone design, a style guide, printed advertisement mock-ups as well as video advertisement wireframes.
Project seven
South Africa & smart airports
The brief required me to follow the design thinking process in order to identify, research and solve a design problem. I identified smart technology and its ability to improve the passenger airport journey and experience at O.R Tambo International as my design question. I demonstrated my ability to conduct research as well as leveraged my existing knowledge of UX and UI design to create a seamless digital solution. Information and visual design elements were also used to create physical solutions. Based on the conducted research, I designed a three-phase solution inspired by wayfindig principles.
